Welcome to Ewood Medical Centre and Larkhill Surgery

We wish to take this opportunity to welcome you to Ewood Medical Centre and Larkhill Surgery. We are very proud of the service we provide and hope we are able to fully support the health needs of you and your family. We are committed to providing a high standard of care and we are keen to develop our services which will benefit our patients. We are also open minded and welcome suggestions to improve our services to you. Please feel free to look at the pages of our website which will give you a comprehensive overview of our services to the local community.

Appointments to see the Doctor
Ewood and Larkhill surgeries are by appointment only. Patients may either call in or telephone the surgery to make an appointment which can be booked in advance if required. Failure to attend three appointments may result in you being removed from our practice list.

Urgent appointments
If you require an appointment for a medical problem you feel will not wait until the offered appointment time, please tell the receptionist the symptoms and she will ask the doctor or will ask you to come either at the beginning or the end of the next available surgery but you may be prepared to wait...

Appointments to see the Nurse
To see the practice nurse at both surgeries please either call in or telephone the receptionist who will make an appointment for you.

Cancelling appointments
If you are unable to make your appointment, please cancel it as soon as possible to enable someone else to benefit from it.

Out of hours
If you require a doctor in an emergency between the hours of 6.30pm and 8.00am, weekends and bank holidays, please ring the Emergency Doctor Service. Routine and non urgent matters should wait until the surgery opens.

Home visits
Home visits can be arranged for patients too ill to attend surgery.
If you feel a home visit is necessary please try to telephone before 10.30am. Only emergency visits will be arranged after that time.
Please give us as much information as possible to enable the doctor to allocate priority. Please do remember that several patients can be seen at the surgery in the time that it takes to do a home visit.
Having no personal transport is NOT an appropriate reason for a home visit.

Repeat Prescriptions
If you require further supplies of your repeat medication we ask that you give us 24 hours notice. Requests can be taken over the telephone, ideally after 10.00am. Please speak clearly, spelling out the names of the medication if necessary. Many pharmacies now operate a collect and delivery service. Please tell the receptionist whether you wish to collect the prescription from surgery or from a pharmacy. Prescriptions need to be signed for when they are collected from surgery.

Zero Tolerance
We strongly support the NHS policy on zero tolerance. Anyone attending the surgery who abuses the GPs, staff or other patients be it verbally, physically or in any threatening manner whatsoever, will risk removal from the practice list. In extreme cases we may summon the police to remove offenders from the practice premises.
